At least four children died and 12 others were stabbed inside an attack at a kindergarten in eastern China’s Shandong province, reports said on Wednesday.

The attacker, who had been furnished with a knife, burst into the unnamed kindergarten in Shandong’s Zibo city Tuesday afternoon, the Hong Kong-based Information Centre for Human Rights and Democracy quoted a local police official as saying.

The attacker later surrendered to police, Hong Kong newspaper Ming Pao reported.

Chinese state media could not immediately report the incident, and that is the most recent in a number of attacks at schools and kindergartens in China this year.

At least five similar attacks have been reported, resulting in the death of dozens of children and several teachers.

Following the earlier attacks, the government ordered a review of security at schools, while state media have discussed possible underlying causes of the attacks.

“Apart from adopting forceful security measures, we also need to focus on addressing some deep-rooted causes behind these problems, including handling some social contradictions, resolving disputes and strengthening the role of grassroot mediation,” Premier Wen Jiabao told Hong Kong-based Phoenix TV in May.

据《新湘报》报道，8月3日下午四时许，一歹徒持刀闯入山东省淄博市博山区机关小区一幼儿园，疯狂砍杀幼儿园的老师和儿童，导致多名孩子死亡和幼儿园园长死亡，伤者多达20多人。
《新湘报》从幼儿园家长处了解到，有家长看到有受伤的孩子被抱出来的时候，脸上的肉都已经被砍得几乎剥离头部了，非常恐怖。有家长接到孩子后，尽管孩子没有受伤或者根本没有经历此劫，父母都泣不成声，也有家长站在街上破口大骂歹徒，激愤之情难以抑制。

当天在现场的一位群众告诉新湘报记者，昨天下午，案发现场已经被封闭，当地公安机关已在维持秩序，而幼儿园的学生大多还在园内，园门口聚集了上百名群众围观。有的家长因为没有见到自己的孩子，情绪显得非常激动。

凶案发生后，当地政府部门已经赶赴现场处理善后事宜，山东省委书记姜异康已于当天晚上抵达现场。目前，该案还在进一步侦破中。

另据香港《星岛日报》报道，事发地点位于博山机关小区的淄博实验幼儿园博山机关幼儿园分院，三名男子（有网民称只有一人）先将两名老师砍伤，然后肆意挥刀砍杀幼儿园的小朋友，有的小孩子来不及躲闪，脑袋都被砍成两半，血流成河。

《星岛日报》援引相关人士介绍称，因资金问题，博山区机关小区的幼儿园备配的保安人手不足。据悉，保安每天下午三、四点休息吃饭，因此案发时保安并不在场。而有网民透露，歹徒作案后逃离现场。而现场一名警察则称，其中一个疑犯已自首，该疑犯二十七岁，是当地人。
